Dr. Martin Schlegel – Board Member
Martin has more than 20 years experience in the sports and recreation, construction and plastics specialty chemicals industry in the areas of product development, process engineering and research and development commercialisation. He is Principal of Chemneera Consulting providing advice in the sport and recreation industry across Australia, Europe and the USA.
Martin is also a Member of the Advisory Board of A&A Australia, a tax, legal and consulting group member of the global FTI Advisory Network. He is a director of NCI Packaging a leading manufacturer of plastic and decorative metal packaging for the industrial, food and medical industries working on innovation and new business models. Martin is an elected Board Member of the Australia Sports Technologies Network (ASTN) and volunteers as President of the not-for-profit Society of Scholarships for Australian-German Student Exchange (SAGSE) in Victoria. In addition, Martin is a member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Sports Technology published by the Routledge, Taylor & Francis Group and has been a guest lecturer at RMIT University Melbourne in the field of sports management, innovation and surfacing technology.
Previously, Martin was the Managing Director of Advanced Polymer Technology Australasia and a Director of Sports Technology International, the manufacturer, supplier and installer of field hockey pitches for the 2012 Olympic Games and other major events like World Cup, Youth Olympic Games and Commonwealth Games globally. During that time, Martin successfully managed innovation strategy, business turnaround and organisational growth by optimising sales and marketing, developing export markets and building brands. Prior to his engagement in Australia, Martin worked in various positions in the USA including management positions in information technology, quality management, chemical process engineering and product development. During his time in the US, Martin gained in-depth experience polymer chemistry for coatings, adhesive, sealant and elastomer (CASE) as well as industrial, medical and optical specialty chemical applications collaborating with companies like 3M, BASF, Huntsman and PPG.
He holds a Doctorate degree (Dr.rer.nat.) in natural science specialising in Chemical Engineering, a German Diplom (MSc) in Chemistry and engaged in economic studies as part of his doctorate program.
