Celebrating the Australian sportstech ecosystem in Sydney
Organiser: ASTN
Date: 31 May 2023Venue: QT in Sydney
Attendees heard from speakers from ASTN who provided a deep dive into the report findings. A detailed market sizing and economic impact analysis on Australia’s sportstech industry revealed the sector is now worth A$4.25 billion.
The State of New South Wales (NSW) is home to 30% of sportstech companies with 55% being classified as startups (1-10 employees), 33% small-to-medium enterprises (SME, 11-50 employees) and 12% larger organisations (50 plus employees). Almost half of the businesses in NSW services the mass participation and active living market segments with almost 60% building their products and solutions on information and communication technologies.
The proceedings included a panel discussion with James Ellender, Head of Expansion for AFL who was previously CEO of ActiveXchange, and Edwina Griffin, Founder of AtOne. ActiveXchange is a sportstech startup arming health and fitness organisations and governments, with data to support communities to become more healthy. AtOne is a virtual reality app that targets stress and builds mind fitness using visualisations, immersive scenes, music and scents. The duo shared their individual career journeys including challenges and learnings they experienced along the way as sportstech startup and how they benefited from participating in ASTN’s accelerator programs.
“Thank you to our New South Wales based network who contributed to making this event such a great success. We were thrilled to see so many faces, both familiar and new, and hope guests benefited from the information provided as well as the opportunity to network with other sportstech industry leaders,” said Dr Martin Schlegel, Executive Chair, ASTN.
