From a sportstech perspective, publishing these important policy and strategy documents for the first time identified sportstech as an opportunity for application of quantum technologies alongside other sectors like healthcare, defence, critical minerals and others. In particular the strategy document identified local deep science capability, opportunities for commercialisation and workforce development as well as investment. Given that work, the Queensland Chief Scientist convened the ‘Queensland Quantum meets Sports’ event bringing together university experts and industry practitioners to discuss the multiple opportunities quantum technologies can bring to high-performance and the business of sport. Applications like tournament organisation, games related traffic management and prevision event scheduling were discussed alongside elite player performance and game analysis or anti-doping in light of the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
