Spotlight on the ASTN History and its founding Chair James Demetriou

ASTN’s beginnings, its history and development over the past 10 years is inherently linked to its founding Chair: James Demetriou is one of the great success stories of modern Australia. The first-generation Aussie became the first person of Hellenic background to represent the Essendon Football Club in the VFL/AFL, in 1975. After footy, James carved out a career in law, commerce, sport, governance and innovation.

In 2012, James founded the Australian Sport Technologies Network (ASTN) together with Craig Hill. As a vehicle to grow Aussie sportstech companies, ASTN has helped to propel Australian-inspired sportstech to the world stage. Following the ASTN ‘Playbook’, James and ASTN have helped take a $250 million industry, and turn it in to a $3 billion phenom.
