Queensland’s Sports Minister Stirling Hinchliffe has a big ambition for the future of sports tech in Queensland – for the State to be a global leader in one of the world’s fastest-growing industries.

On 5 September, the Senate Inquiry into concussions and repeated head trauma in contact sports handed down its much-anticipated report. In the report, the Committee highlights the inadequacy of insurance arrangements for athletes and encourages state and territory governments to engage with professional sporting organisations to explore how the general exclusion of professional sports people from various state and territory workers’ compensation schemes could be removed. In this webinar, Dr Eric Windholz from Monash University will examine current insurance arrangements for athletes, the exemption from workers’ compensation of professional sportspersons, and options for reform considering the Senate Inquiry's recommendations.

ASTN General Manager Cam Vale was invited to attend the Queensland Government Sports Tech roundtable on Thursday 27th July in Brisbane. Led by the Treasurer and Minister for Trade, the Hon Mr Cameron Dick and the Minister for Tourism, Innovation and Sport, and Minister Assisting the Premier on Olympics and Paralympics Sport and Engagement, the Hon. Stirling Hinchliffe MP., the ASTN and select members from the sports technology community heard more from Queensland Government on the future opportunities for sports technology in Queensland.

The ASTN will be holding a panel discussion in Brisbane as part of Australia Sports Innovation Week on Friday 1 September from 10.00am-12.30pm.

The Money In Sport Conference returns to the Gold Coast for 2023, bringing professionals from all sides of sport under one roof.

The sport industry can deliver significant improvements across a wide range of environmental societal and governance measures. Prof Danny Samson, who ASTN teamed up with to form ESG Sports, presented at the Money in Sport to introduce a simple self-assessment and present on more comprehensive ESG implementation across all levels of sport.
